Cape Town reminds us of home in many ways. It's in a stunning location, surrounded by ocean, mountains, and vineyards. The city offers some amazing cusines. The flavors of Africa are available along with amazing seafood and international foods. Right in the middle of Cape Town is the undeniable Table Mountain. Its a 1073 m tall moutain that has a flat top. Fog draps over it like a table cloth, similar to how the fog spills into Sausalito from the headlands.
Just a impressive as the natural surroundings of Cape Town, is the sprawling townships. This is were the huge disparities between the Have's and Have not's can not be ignored. The townships are shanty towns. Conditions can be horrendous. A family of 18 can occupy a small shack made of fiberglass roofing or whatever else can be used as walls. We were fortunate enough to take a township tour. At first it seems like a strange and potentially insulting activity to take part in, but we left with a better feel for Cape Town and perhaps South Africa in general. Millions of Africans live in townships.
